Beauty Profile-Mei Yasumoto

II have had clear skin growing up and into my twenties, but began to experience hormonal acne in 2019. When I had questions and concerns related to my skin, I would look for online communities such as forums and subreddits where I could read about the experiences of other people in their skincare journey. Reading about other people's experiences really helped me in mine, and I was able to find a great skincare routine that resolved the issues I was facing.

When I learned about the concept of the Keshoume Beauty Profile Community, I was excited at the opportunity of being a part of a community where people could share their own experiences in an accessible and easy to understand format. Through this community, I want to share my own honest experiences and reviews of skincare products, and learn about the experiences of people.

SKIN CARE

Main Concern & Product's You're Looking For

Always looking for affordable skincare with excellent ingredients. Note that I have combo skin, and that my main skincare struggle is with hormonal acne resulting in closed comedones.

What product(s) are you currently using or used/purchased in the past?  Results?

Cleansing Oil/Makeup Remover

Cleanser

Past
1. The Body Shop- I liked their products, until I learned that fragrances aren't the best thing for your skin. If you can tolerate fragrance, it could be a good choice. My skin has become more sensitive lately, so I have stopped using The Body Shop.

Toner/Lotion

Current
1. Good Molecules-
I rotate the Niancinamide Toner, Vitamin C Booster Powder, and Discoloration Correction Serum into my AM and PM skincare routines. Loving these products for treating any inflammation / redness in the skin.

Past
1. ASKA Corporation Limited (アスカコーポレーション)- Japanese brand that my mom had introduced me to in my teen years when I was living in Japan. I used their products for everything (e.g. face wash, lotions, creams) and had great skin at the time. While I am not sure if that was due to my using their products or just being lucky and not having teen acne, I have to say that the ingredients list for most of their products is amazing. Many of their products are affordable, fragrance free, essential oils free, and alcohol free, while also containing many antioxidants, humectants, skin brightening, and soothing agents. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a way to purchase them outside of Japan.

Moisturizer

Current
1. Cerave- I use the Cerave PM Moisturizer every night. It's packed with great ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and niancinamide. I find it restores my skin barrier without clogging pores. Has no fragrance, alcohol, or essential oils, and it's affordable.
2. Lunik- Centella Calming Cream Gel (Lightweight moisturizer with minimal fragrance). Has no fragrance, alcohol, or essential oils, and it's affordable.

HAIR CARE

Main Concern & Product's You're Looking For

Fragrance/dye/sulfate-free hair care that is affordable and moisturizing to the hair while also improving scalp health. I have straight, bleached (bayalage) hair.

What product(s) are you currently using or used/purchased in the past?  Results?

Shampoo/Conditioner

Current
1. Phillips Adams Apple Cider Unscented Shampoo- The Phillips Adams Unscented Shampoo has really improved the shine of my hair.
2. Shea Moisture - Raw Shea Butter Restorative Moisture Conditioner- The Shea Moisture Conditoner I use has helped to increase the strength of my bleached hair, as I now have less breakage than when I was using the Tresemme hair products.

Past
1. TRESemmé Keratin Line (Color and non-Color)-I used the Tresemme Keratin Shampoo and Conditioner for a couple of years while my hair grew from shoulder length to mid-back length. After I got my hair dyed and it grew to mid-back length, hair breakage became a bit of a problem for me, so I began to look for other shampoos and conditioners that would improve the strength of my hair. I now look for hair care products that are fragrance/dye/sulfate free, so I have stopped using the Tresemme Keratin line.
